How the table applies
- The underlying conduct determines the suspension. A red card, technical foul, major penalty, disqualifying foul or ejection is the immediate game action. The reason for that action determines the applicable suspension.
- Listed suspensions are minimums, not maximums. More serious or repeated conduct may result in a longer suspension or a time-based restriction.
- Interim restrictions may be used. A participant or team may be temporarily restricted from participating while a serious incident is reviewed. An interim restriction is not a final finding of misconduct.
- Serious conduct may affect all Intramural sports. This may include fighting, threats, discriminatory conduct, abuse or physical contact involving an official or staff member, attempts to injure, spitting at a person, identity fraud or playing while suspended.
- Individual and team consequences are separate. Team Fair Play, forfeiture, probation, spectator, captain or league-removal consequences may apply in addition to an individual suspension.
- University processes may also apply. Conduct may be addressed separately through applicable Athletics & Recreation or University policies and procedures.
Serving a suspension
- Suspensions begin immediately unless the participant’s written decision states otherwise.
- An unserved suspension carries across terms and academic years until it has been completed.
- A participant cannot avoid a suspension by changing teams, divisions, sports or registration status.
- Unless written permission is provided, a suspended participant may not play, dress, sit on the bench, officiate, scorekeep or act as a team representative in the affected activity.
- A game normally counts toward a suspension only when the participant’s team plays a scheduled contest. A bye, participant absence, or default or forfeit by the participant’s own team does not normally count.
- Playoff roster and minimum-games-played requirements continue to apply. A suspension does not create an eligibility exception.
